More research!

 Hi!

In this post, I would like to discuss the position which I discovered in aims to write good a film review:

with part of my work where I have used the research

CORRIGAN, T. (2007). A short guide to writing about film. New York, Pearson/Longman available here: https://r3.vlereader.com/Reader?ean=9781292078120#

I would like to write some of my notes from this source which help me understood and prepare me better for my project and which I will use to construct my own review.

In the book, Carrigan included the example of film review which consist of the description of scene and after that Corrigan (2014) points out that the film reviewer included the excitement elicited by specific scenes and answer to the common questions about :what happened, why it happened (p.20-21)

In the film, the need for contact with another person was perfectly shown, which gave the protagonist authenticity. The scene in which the main character tries to light a flame and unfortunately wounds his arm and finally throws the ball, found in one of the small packages fished out of the water, for which he was responsible in the courier's earlier life, becomes the beginning of the creation of an imaginary "friend". As the survivor calmed down and started to get the innocent ball thrown, he noticed that the trail of blood from his hand had created a strange stain on it resembling a human face. He quickly painted his nose, mouth and eyes in its place, placing the ball on the tree trunk and giving her the name Wilson. The ball became a confidant, a patient listener of his plans and thoughts. The film conveys an indirect, clear, logical message: we are not designed to be completely isolated from other people. It was a tragic spectacle of a lonely man and his ultimate ways of dealing with them-  I would like to describe crucial scene for me with answering to the question what happened: he started using the ball as his friend why? we are not designed to be completely isolated from other people

I readed some examples of the structure of the film review: how it could be constructed

,,idenitfy the scene in a film you've recently seen that most affected you or most confused you. In one or two paragraphs try to explain why. Be sure to use specific evidence to support your answer''  Corrigan (2014) (p.20)

The film, thanks to its great structure, presents many moments that can shock and be deeply remembered. For me, one of them was the removal of the painful tooth that the courier had complained about before the accident. This is a macabre, frightening example of what conditions Chuck had to adapt to - a well-mannered man traveling around the world by plane to reach the headquarters of the companies where he worked, in one of the scenes he records a voice message directed to his wife about planning a visit to the dentist due to recurrent pain tooth. Unfortunately, he did not manage to do it and instead, on the island, as a shipwrecked man, he removes him thanks to the skid - the tool he had at his disposal.- why? because he was workaholic, elegant man ealier

From this book, I gained important advice on the appropriate approach to writing the film review. Corrigan (2014) points out that is good to connect the personal and primary experience before start writing. (p.34)

psychological theme

For me, it means that is good to have the strategy to consider the personal experience (consider what aspects to analyse in the film that are relevant to your field of interest and consider how to respond to the question: on which elements do you feel best prepared to evaluate?

The book also reminds me the fact that,,a movie is not just about subject but the rendition of that subject for particular reasons and to create certain meanings' Corrigan

I will use this reminder to write directly about meaning in my opinion certain of a scene.

The film conveys an indirect, clear, logical message: we are not designed to be completely isolated from other people. It was a tragic spectacle of a lonely man and his ultimate ways of dealing with them.

My additional research is looking by the book:

Brown, B 2016, Cinematography: Theory and Practice: Image Making for Cinematographers and Directors, Taylor & Francis Group, Oxford. Available from: ProQuest Ebook Central. [19 August 2021].

As you can see this book include a number of useful chapters from the language of the film.

  1. At this point, your research needs to be more developed and at a higher standard. Research is not adding screenshots of book chapters and saying this is useful without any critical commentary. You need to improve the structure of this post and quote or paraphrase the key ideas from these authors. Your blog should include in-text citations and a full Harvard reference list at the end of the post. You could further develop the research here by adding examples of other reviews and incorporating examples of your own writing to really show how the research informed your work.
